Choosing a potty

Once your child shows signs that he’s ready for potty training,  its now time to get a potty for your home.  It is important to take your child with you when going to purchase the potty. You should explain to him what it is used for and let him help decide which one you should purchase.

Once you get the potty, let your child decide where he wants it situated and surround it with his favorite toys and stuffed animals. You should let your child take pride in ownership. It helps facilitate the child’s interest in the potty use.

It is worthy noting that children who are more focused on behaving like an adult would prefer using a stepping stool to climb unto an adult toilet with a child seat attached.

It is not necessarily essential to keep the potty in the bathroom. Some parents get greater success when the potty is in the child’s room where it is easily accessible after naps or in the kitchen for use after meals. However after the child has become familiar with the potty use, you can move it to the bathroom or even introduce the child to the adult toilet.
