Emergency Medical Services is a system of trained medical professionals who handle out of hospital emergencies. EMS is linked to a nationwide emergency number and in the United States, that number is 911.
When to call the EMS
Call the EMS when your child
- Needs immediate medical attention.
- Has difficulty breathing or unable to speak .
- Has a fever associated with abnormal ABCs (appearance, breathing and circulation)
- Skin turns blue pink or purple
- Unresponsive or decreased responsiveness
- Vomiting blood
- A child is acting less or is much less withdrawn
- Increasing or severe pain everywhere
- A large volume of blood in the stool
- A child with a severe stiff neck, fever and headache
- A child who is significantly dehydrated (sunken eyes, not making tears or urinating , lethargic )
- Suddenly spreading purple or red rash
- Hot or cold weather injuries such as frostbite , heat exhaustion )
- Multiple children affected by injury or serious illness at the same time.
- Seizures which is Rhythmic jerking of arms and legs and a loss of responsiveness
- Anytime you believe your child needs immediate medical treatment
