Yes, children can get coronavirus . However , they tend to get milder symptoms. They are less likely to be severely ill and rarely need hospitalization. It remains unclear if children infected with SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, are more or less likely to spread it to others.
Why are cases of COVID-19 rising in children ?
There seem to be an increase in the rise of COVID-19 among children. This may be due to testing becoming more widely available . During the early stages of the pandemic, testing was available to people who were the sickest. However, now that there is more testing, we can test anyone with symptoms including children.
What is the effect of COVID-19 on going back to school ?
It is important that we take careful steps when kids return back to school. In some places where the spread of the virus is spiking or elevated, it may be impossible for children to return to in-person classes. However, children learn best at school. It is therefore important that we work together to prevent the spread of the virus so thats it’s safe for children and teachers to return back to the classroom.
