Solids are usually introduced into a baby’s diet within 4 to 5 months depending on what the doctor says. If you start your baby on solid foods too early, it increases the baby’s risk of food allergies which will prevent the baby from growing well.
When it is time to starts solid
- Give the baby one solid food at a time for a few days to help determine if he’s allergic to it or not.
- Start your baby on iron fortified cereal and then slowly fruits, vegetables and meat.
- Feed your baby on a small amounts of food at a time. Start with a teaspoon and the build from there.
- Prepare mashed foods such as sweet potatoes, applesauce, carrots, bananas, and peaches. It is important to give the baby a variety of foods so that the baby can get proper nutrition.
What should i avoid giving my baby ?
Until your baby is 1 year old, it is best to avoid certain foods. Some of these foods include :
- Honey
- Whole eggs
- Nuts
- Shellfish
- Plain cow’s milk
- Foods with seeds
How would i know my baby is full ?
You will know your baby is full when he turns away from the food or spits it out back.
