Your kids should enjoy the outdoors even in the cold weather with a little planning.
How to keep your child safe outside during the cold weather.
- The child needs to bundle up but not too heavily. Wet skin can result in the child being cold and its the first step towards hypothermia.
- Wear a few breathable layers so that warm air remains between the layers rather than against the skin.
- Keep a watchful eye on the hands and feet. Check on the child frequently to make sure the socks and gloves are dry.
- Make sure the child wears a hat. Most of the body’s heat is lost through the head.
- If the child expresses pale or red skin, shivering and numbness, bring him in immediately and remove all wet clothing. Do not rub the skin but use warm not hot water to re-warm the affected areas and put on warm, dry clothes.
