valentine's day

  • Use lots of positive and encouraging words when talking to your child. Don’t use words that put down or mock your child.
  • You should make an extra effort to be a role model about how to talk and connect to people. You should  say ” please” , ” thank you”  and  ” I’m sorry “. Children learn a lot from observing and imitating parent’s behavior.
  • Be there for your child physically and emotionally. You have to listen to your child when she wants to talk to you. Ask her how her day was and listen to what she says. Check for signs of anxiety and depression.
  • Write a special lunch note. You can make your child feel special by writing a heartfelt note or sneaking a card into her lunch box. Tell her what makes her special  and why you love her.
  • If your child is angry or not in a good mood, you have to respond with  affection such as a big , cuddle or anything she responds to. You should talk about the event when she is feeling better. Never respond to violence when your child is in a bad mood.
  • Use non violent forms of discipline . You should start using rewards and restrictions to  encourage strengths and address concerns. If you allow children to break rules without being disciplined, they will continue to break rules and it encourages more rules to be broken.
  • Plan to spend time alone with your child and do something  she enjoys. You can encourage your child to be active by going on walks, riding a bicycle or playing ball with her. You can give your older children Valentine’s day card and make Valentine’s day card together with preschoolers and toddlers.
  • Bake together. Children like to help in the kitchen. Bake something together to celebrate the day.
  • Make it  a point to include family game night on your calendar so that your whole family will look forward to having ways to enjoy family time together. Turn of phones and tablets during this time.
  • Dont forget to say  “i love you”  to children of all ages.
