Children learning to share
Getting children to share can be very difficult . Children under the age of 3 are not developmentally able to understand the concept of sharing with lots of encouragement from the adult.
As much as possible , try to encourage kids to play with their own toys even if they are playing together. When children are playing together , encourage them to do activities that doesnt require a whole lot of toy sharing such as playing hide and seek, listening to music, dancing or reading a book. You should also avoid giving your children unsupervised access to the toys of older kids. Older kids toys may contain small part that can choke younger kids.
Ways you can help your child learn to share
- When you see a child sharing or waiting to take a turn, praise her.
- Point out good sharing in others.
- Play games with your kids that involves sharing and taking turns .
- Talk about sharing before your child has play dates with other kids.
