Yeast infection and fertility
Yeast infection wont directly affect your chances of conceiving. However the itchiness and irritation from the infection is what will probably make you less interested in sexual intercourse.
Yeast infection is caused by a common fungus called Candida. The acid balance of the vagina prevents this fungus from multiplying. However change in acidity of the vagina can result in multiplication of the fungus. The acidity can change due to the following
- illness
- menstruation
- pregnancy
- birth control pills
- some antibiotics
Moist tight clothing such as wet swimming suit can also provide a conducive environment for the fungus to breed.
The main symptoms of yeast infection include itchiness and a white cheesy discharge.
Yeast infection is easy to treat with over the counter vaginal anti fungal medication or oral prescription drug Diflucan (fluconazole). You may still have sex while taking anti fungal medication . However intercourse can further irritate the area and delay healing.
If symptoms don’t go away after taking the medication, see your doctor. He will test for other infections with similar symptoms.
