Giving gatorade to kids

An electrolyte solution like Pedialyte or Kao Lectrolyte  is a better option to give to a child who has diarrhea and seem dehydrated . They are specially made to offer the proper amounts of sugar and salt to rehydrate a child.

Gatorade on the other hand contains electrolyte and can be used for a short time. However the sugar content is higher than your child needs and can make the diarrhea last longer if he takes no other fluids or food.

If your child isn’t actively vomiting  and is consuming food and liquid, choose those with salt such as pretzels, saltine or even chicken noodle soup and broth. You can then give the child gatorade in a pinch  for about 8 hours or less  until you get him a more appropriate electrolyte.
