If you are set on getting your newborn’s ear pierced , talk to your doctor if he can do it .

You have to know this before getting your child’s ear pierced

  • The procedure is usually done without pain medication. You can give your child infant’s  acetaminophen or ibuprofen before or after the procedure .
  • It is possible that your child will be constantly touching her ears leading to an infection. You can prevent this by doing the following :
    • clean the post and the area around the ear several times a  day with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide
    • look for redness or tenderness around the piercing hole and on the earlobe. This could be an indication of infection
  • Your child can also get an allergic reaction from the metal after getting her ears pierced. If a rash develops around the area of the piercing, takes the earring out. You can avoid this by making sure that the earring used is either surgical steel or  14 karat gold
