Choosing a nanny can be one of the most important decisions parents make. It can be hard to tell if your nanny is going to take good care of your baby .
There are certain clues that may indicate that your nanny is not doing a good job. You may have a problem if you notice these signs.
- Your baby cries or seems scared of the baby sitter. It could just be that the baby and the nanny haven’t bonded yet. It could also be that the nanny is not providing the warmth and comfort that the baby needs.
- Your nanny gives you very little feedback about time spent with the baby. If your caregiver is not forthright about how they spend the day, it could be that she is not good at communicating or she is hiding something from you.
- Change in your child’s behavior : When there is a sudden change in the child’s behavior such as becoming clingy especially when the nanny is around, it could be a sign. Other things such as increased hunger and sleepiness after being under the care of the nanny could mean she wasn’t fed well or didn’t take a np. This could mean neglect .
- You notice lots of bruises. It is important for your nanny to keep an eye on the baby at all times to prevent accidents. Kids are prone to falls when they are learning to crawl and walk. However if you suspect your baby hurt in unusual places like the stomach, cheeks, ears and thighs, it could be abuse.
- Your nanny does not follow your requests. You and your nanny are working as a team for the well being of your baby. It is therefore important that she follows your requests and not act like she knows more than you.
- Nanny is usually late : A good caregiver should be someone you can depend on. It is important to find someone who is committed and considerate about your needs. Tardiness and unexplained absence may be a sign that the nanny cannot be reliable.
