More and more first time moms are scheduling for c-section even when they is no medical reason to do so. However medical organizations do not recommend unnecessary cesarean sections.
Some women believe that scheduling delivery is more convenient than waiting for labor and childbirth. This makes it easy for them to arrange for maternity leave and extra help at home. Some others do it because they believe cesarean will help minimize the pain and certain complications such as tearing, incontinence or sexual dysfunction that are associated with vaginal delivery.
Medical organizations recommend that women plan for vaginal delivery whenever possible even if the doctor is willing to perform a cesarean.
There is no evidence that c-section is a safer than vaginal delivery. However it is known that it can be more risky if you end up having more than one child.
