Is it normal for my child to have body hair ?
In most cases, it is common for children to have body hair. Some toddlers have hair on the arms, legs , back or even face . This is most likely due to genetics. Body hair doesnt usually signal a problem. However if you have any concerns, ask your pediatrician.
You may be wondering what is considered too much body hair. There is no precise definition . However most doctors will agree that it means extreme hair growth on the body or hair growth in the armpit or pubic areas. In this case, blood work will be ordered to determine if this is caused by hormonal imbalance. Hormonal imbalance can be corrected by medication or surgery.
It is not a good idea to get rid of body hair in children . Using hair removal methods such as shaving or waxing in children can cause allergic reactions because their skin is too sensitive and the hair will grow back anyway.
