How to care for baby skin
A baby’s skin is so soft and sensitive. Caring for a newborn’s skin can be very challenging . Various chemicals in every day life and the dry winter months can dry out the skin.
You need to remember that baby skin is normal the way it is. It is important to keep the natural moisture in and on the skin intact. It doesn’t require a lot of products to do that.
It is enough to bathe your baby about twice every week. However you can just clean around the neck , mouth and diaper area which are more prone to dirt daily but thats about it. If your baby boy has been circumcised, your doctor will have certain recommendations about bathing.
During the winter seasons, do not over bathe. If the baby has inherited dry skin, it is important not to bathe her excessively . Dry skin is not a problem. Dry and itchy skin is a problem. You should avoid using harsh chemicals on the baby ‘s skin. You should know that the soap that you use to bathe your baby should not contain any detergent which means its something that doesn’t bubble.
There are lots of baby lotions that you can use on your baby’s skin. The greasier ones lock in the moisture. These include aquafor, coconut oil and cedaphil .
Other points to consider include the following :
- use tearless shampoo
- use petroleum jelly or zinc oxide cream for diaper cream
- use alcohol free wipes or don’t use them at all. Wipes can sometimes irritate the skin so your best option is water and a washcloth
- it is better to go with fragrance free detergent. The kind made for babies are fine however not necessary for most kids
