Pregnancy can be exciting and overwhelming. The changes that goes on in the body, the long list of to dos and not knowing what to expect all contribute to why some women become anxious and stressed during pregnancy .
It is therefore important for both partners to work together to strengthen their bond. Getting the support of your partner during pregnancy makes the woman less stressed and happy.
How can you support your partner during pregnancy ?
If this is your first child, you may want to read pregnancy books and know what to expect during each trimester of pregnancy. You can also do the following :
- go to doctor’s visit with her
- go to childbirth classes with her
- help her make a decision about prenatal tests
Other ways you can support your partner include the following :
Emotional support
Ways you can support your partner emotional include the following :
- encourage and reassure her
- ask her how you can help her
- show her love and affection by holding her hands
- help her make lifestyle changes such as giving up alcohol, quitting smoking and cutting down on coffee
- encourage her to eat healthy by eating healthy yourself
- encourage her take break and naps to help her get more emergy
- take walks together . This will give her some exercise and give you two some time to talk
- some women want more sex during pregnancy. Others want less sex. It is important to talk about intimacy so that you both do what is best for you
Physical support
- help her with chores such as cleaning and cooking
- give her back and foot massages to ease her stress , aches and pains
After childbirth
- help feed , bathe and change the baby
- if you have other children, help with their care
- give the new moms some breaks to work, exercise and do some other activities
