Vitamin B6 form morning sickness
Studies have shown that when pregnant women take vitamin B6, it greatly improves nausea . However it is not known exactly how it does it.
A pregnant woman only needs 1.9 milligrams (mg) of this vitamin a day to help make antibodies, red blood cells and neurotransmitters and to meet the demands of their developing baby.
The vitamin is found in a wide variety of foods. These include the following :
- banana
- green beans
- nuts
- carrots
- cauliflower
- lean meat
- fish
- potato
Your practitioner will recommend taking 25 mg, three times a day to ease morning sickness.
If you plan on taking vitamin B6 to ease morning sickness, talk to your health care provider. He will tell you how much you need to take and whether your prenatal vitamin counts as one of the doses.
You should not take more vitamin B6 than recommended. It can result in numbness and nerve damage which may not be safe for both you and your unborn child.
