The odds of getting pregnant in your 40s are lower than previous years. Some experts believe it may be impossible to get pregnant with your own eggs after 45. However some people at this age get pregnant with fertility treatment and others on their own. There are advantages and disadvantages of getting pregnant in your 40s.

- getting pregnant may be difficult
- high risk of miscarriage
- high risk of chromosomal abnormalities
- high risk of pregnancy complications such as preeclampsia, gestational diabetes, high blood pressure and birth problems
- high risk of small or preterm baby
- if your partner is around the same age ,sperm quality is decreasing and increases the risk of genetic problems such as down syndrome and autism spectrum disorder
