Giving your child antibiotics
Most children don’t like taking medicine. If your child vomits immediately after taking antibiotic, look at the vomit to help you tell if he spit all the medicine out. If he did, it is okay to give him another full dose. If he spit the second one too, contact his doctor. It is not a good idea to re-dose frequently as this may cause diarrhea especially with certain antibiotics.
In some situations, antibiotics can be given as shots instead of orally.
If your child is eating solids, you can give her the medication with a spoon. However most parents find using the syringe the easiest. In this case, use the syringe at the side of his cheeks. Some medications can be mixed with breastmilk or formula. Consult your doctor or pharmacist first. In this case, you have to give the milk in small amounts because the child needs to finish it all to get the full dosage of the medication.
