Baby rolls over onto his tummy during sleep
You should not get worried about your baby staying on his back all night if he is strong enough to roll onto his tummy by himself. This is especially true if he can do the following :
- play on his tummy during the day
- can hold his head up well
- can roll from his tummy and back to his back again by himself
However you can reduce your child’s risk of SIDS by putting your baby on his back when you put him down during sleep during the first year. You also have to make sure
- the mattress is firm and just covered with a fitted sheet
- there is nothing else such as pillows, blankets or stuffed animals in the crib
- don’t overheat the room or overdress the child
- don’t let anyone smoke near the baby
You have to know the risk of SIDS reduce significantly by the baby’s first birthday. It peaks between 1 to 4 months and then starts to decline.
