Exercising during pregnancy is helpful however, you have to know your limit. You have to take care not to overheat your body. Overheating at any time during pregnancy can make you feel faint and dizzy. It can also cause harm to your unborn child.
It is especially essential not to get too hot in your first trimester, when your body is not good at regulating its temperature . It is important to keep as cool as you can during exercising . Drink lots of water.
How will overheating during pregnancy affect my baby
It is not known for sure how overheating will affect your pregnancy. However, studies in animals suggest that it may cause birth defects to their offsprings especially in the early months.
How to stay cool during exercising
Take these steps to stay cool when exercising .
- do not engage in strenuous exercises for a long time during a hot or humid weather
- stay well hydrated by drinking lots of water before and during workout . Keep a bottle of water close by and take regular sips.
- wear thin layers of clothes . This will make it easy for you to remove them as you warm up
- slow down if you begin to feel too hot, dizzy or faint. Don’t push yourself too much
- stick to low impact exercises which is less likely to raise your body temperature. It is important to make sure your exercise sessions aren’t longer than 45 minutes at a time
NOTE
Exercising during pregnancy is not likely to raise your body’s temperature unless its very strenuous or you exercise in a very hot and humid weather.
