Pregnant women know that what they ingest during pregnancy will have a great effect on them and their unborn child. What pregnant women drink is important as much as how much is consumed.
5 healthy pregnancy drinks
Water : The body needs more water to cope with the demands of the changing body during pregnancy. Water is important to keep you hydrated and keep healthy red blood cells. Water is also an important component of breast milk. Pregnant women need at least 8 8-ounce glasses of water each day.
Fresh fruit juice : Fresh juices from lemon, orange , watermelon, pineapple and so on are great fresh fruit choices. These fresh fruits are packed with all the nutrients in the fruit. If you decide to buy it from the store, make sure it has 100 % juice on the label. Otherwise the drink might contain more sugar and artificial flavors than the real fruit . Make sure your fruit juice is pasteurized to kill off any bacteria that may be present.
Milk : Milk is rich in protein, calcium and vitamin D. It is important to make sure that the milk is pasteurized.
Home made vegetable juices : Vegetable juice is a heathy way of quenching your thirst while getting all the necessary nutrients you need. During the summer time, a cold vegetable juice will be very refreshing.
Herbal tea : This can be relaxing during pregnancy in addition to its added health benefits. Ginger tea for example is a great way to soothe morning sickness. The vast majority of herbal tea do not contain caffeine. However not all herbal tea are safe to drink during pregnancy. The American Pregnancy Association urges caution when drinking nettle tea, alfalfa tea and yellow dock tea. Talk to your doctor if you have any concerns about the safety of any herbal tea during pregnancy.
