Most new moms take seriously the age – old adage ” never wake a sleeping baby “. They take all the necessary steps to avoid noise when they have a newborn. However they soon come to realize that babies can sleep though almost any noise – vacuum, ringing of telephone or doorbell. Most parents soon realize getting a baby to sleep through noise is not a problem. They begin to wonder what sound their baby will awaken to. Your baby will get a lighter sleep as she grows. In the meantime you can ease up a little bit on the noise control.
How to wake up a sleeping baby
If you’re in a position where you need to awaken your baby, here are few techniques that work sometimes.
- dress down : Most newborns absolutely hate to be undressed. The physical stimulation or the exposure to cold air may be what does the trick
- use a kind, gentle approach : This includes singing to the baby, talking and gentle stimulation. Pick up the baby, talk or sing to her, move her legs around , rub her cheeks or tickle the bottom of her feet.
- clean the baby : When all things fail, you can rub your baby’s face with a cool washcloth. It is not recommended to use a cruel or an unusual punishment. Cleaning the baby to awaken her should be used sparingly such as in event when the baby is long overdue to eat
You have to know that these tips are based on the assumption that the newborn is healthy. Even though it can be challenging to wake up a newborn, you have to know that babies who are unresponsive despite the parents best attempt to wake them up need medical attention. Seek immediate medical help your baby is increasingly sleepy, hard to arouse or unresponsive.
