Your baby can now move about independently. You may be considering purchasing a bath seat to contain him in the bath. These seats provide support so that the child can sit upright in an adult bathtub. However this can cause the child to tip over and he can fall into the bath tub and drown.
According to the American Academy of pediatrics, the US Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends a hard plastic child bathtub instead.
You also have to know that you should never leave your baby unattended to during bath time. You should not turn away from him. Always hold on to your baby with at least one hand while bathing him.
Why is the use of a baby bath seat controversial.
Most people argue they are not safe because they give parents a false sense of security about leaving the baby alone in the tub for a few minutes. It is possible for the seat to tip over and the baby slide in the water even if a parent is close by. It is therefore not recommend to leave the baby unattended to even for a few seconds in the baby bath seat.
If you decide to use a bath seat, you should never leave your baby unattended to or in the care of an older sibling.
