How to avoid dry winter skin

Cold weather can result in dry, chapped skin. The dry air in the heat at home and the low moisture in winter air can have an effect on the skin.

Here are tips to avoid dry, itchy skin in winter.

  • try not to bathe your child no more than 3 times a week
  • avoid bubble baths and harsh deodorant soaps
  • do not rub your child’s skin with a towel to dry them off. That can cause skin irritation. Instead pat the skin dry  and apply moisturizer on the child right away while the skin is still damp. Use moisturizer twice a day for very dry skin
  • for chapped lips, used petroleum jelly and lip conditioners
  • drinking lots of water is also a great way to keep the whole body hydrated

If you have more concerns about how to keep your child’s skin hydrated during the winter season, talk to your pediatrician.
