Most children are nervous during the first day at school. However parents and caregivers can help make this transition a smooth and enjoyable one.
Tips to make first day of school easier
- it is important you start establishing a new routine of your child going to bed early weeks before school reopens. During school year, children should sleep early so that they can get enough rest. Well rested kids perform better in school
- get your child involved in the preparation process such as buying school supplies and snacks for school
- if your child is nervous, let her know that there are other kids who also feel nervous so that she doesnt feel alone. Children of any age can be nervous for the first day for school. Teachers know that students get nervous and find ways of making them feel comfortable
- find a child in the neighborhood that your child can walk to school or ride the school bus with
- let your children know the positive part of first day of school such as seeing old friends and meeting new once. Refresh her memory of her previous school year when she returned from school in high spirits because of a good time in school
- if your child is going to a new school, attend various orientations and take a tour before school reopens
- if necessarily , drive or walk your child to school and pick her up on the first day
