Skin tags are common during pregnancy and are completely harmless. They are extra pieces of skin that looks like bumps. These small flesh-coloured growths of skin are attached to your body by a thin stalk. Skin tags are usually found in areas of the body where the skin rubs together or rub against clothing. These include places such as underneath the breast, face, neck , armpit or genital area.
Gaining weight increases your risk for skin tags . It is likely that weight gain during pregnancy may have contributed to it. Hormones may also to be blamed.However they usually disappear after pregnancy or may fall off by themselves.
What to do if skin tags do not fall off after pregnancy
They usually fall off after pregnancy . However if they still persist , there are ways to get rid of the them. These include tying off the base of the skin tag with dental floss or cotton thread. This will cut off blood supply so that it drops off. However, seek the advice of your doctor before doing this. Getting rid of large skin tags in this way may cause heavy bleeding. You may also be referred to a dermatologist who will freeze them off.
