Is your due date almost here. There are certain things you need to have or do before your baby arrives.

 

To do list before baby’s arrival

 

Child safety seat : It is important that you have a baby’s car seat that is safe and correctly installed before you go to the hospital .

Diapers : You have to plan on about 60 diapers a week.

 

Layette : Here are some basics to get you started with .

  • 6 to 8 sleepers
  • 6 to 8 onesies
  • 4 to 6 pairs of socks or booties
  • 4 to 6  receiving blankets
  • towels and washcloths

Crib : It is important to make sure that the crib is not painted with lead or vanish. Reduce your chid’s risk of suffocation by avoiding the use of use bumper guards on cribs .

 

Medical supplies : You need these medical supplies handy before the baby arrives. They include the following :

  • digital thermometer preferably a rectal digital thermometer
  • lubricant such a petroleum jelly
  • pain reliever ( acetaminophen) for infants. Remember not to use aspirin for children due to the risk of Reye’s syndrome. Ask your pediatrician before giving your child any medication
  • suction bulb for nose
  • saline drops
  • diaper rash ointment
  • rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs to clean the umbilical stump

Choose a health care provider : It is a good idea to choose a doctor for your baby before she arrives.  This way you have someone ready for your baby’s  first well check visit or if she is not feeling well.

 

You can choose a pediatrician who is a doctor who takes care of babies and infants. A family doctor is also another option. He takes care of  people of all ages.

 

 

You also need these before baby comes

  • formula and baby bottles if you want to give your baby formula
  • breast pump and accessories if you want express breast milk
