Hot , humid weather with pregnancy may be not be a good match. Pregnancy can make summer hotter than it really is. However there are few simple guidelines that can help you survive a summer pregnancy.
Tips to help you survive a summer pregnancy
These tips can help you stay cool and healthy during summer
- drinks lots of liquid to stay well hydrated. Electrolyte replacement liquids can help retain lost salts and retain fluid
- wear light colored and breathable fabrics
- take frequent quick showers to help you stay cool
- if you have to be outside, consider going in the morning or in the evening when the sun is lower and temperatures are cooler
- carry the spray bottle with you at all times
- swimming can help you stay cool as well as take some weight of your sciatic nerve
- exercise at cooler times of the day and do not exercise to the point of overheating
- use high SPF sunscreen of 15 or higher, 20 minutes before going into sun. Reapply throughout the whole day
- go indoors if you experience any signs of dizziness, fatigue, extreme thirst , weakness or lightheadedness. Lie down and take some cool water or electrolyte. If you dont feel better, call your doctor right away
- put your feet up to alleviate swelling
- try to nap as often as you can
- minimize salt intake to combat water retention
- you should be careful of typical barbecue foods, such as potato salad and coleslaw that, when left out in the sun, can sour and cause stomach upset.
