Foods that induce labor
Pineapple : This fruit contain the enzyme bromelain, which is thought to soften the cervix and stimulate the smooth muscles to induce labor. However the amount of bromelian in pineapple is so low that you will have to eat an enormous amount of fresh pineapples to achieve this therapeutic effect. That is more likely to cause diarrhea rather than stimulate contractions.
Spicy foods : Spicy foods such as indian curry are known to induce labor. Some people believe that eating spicy curry may bring on labor . However there is no scientific evidence indicating that this is actually the case.
Egg plant : Rumors have it that eating egg plant parmesean can start labor. However you dont have to worry about enjoying your egg plant parmesan. There is no scientific evidence to proves that it will bring you closer to meeting your bundle of joy.
Raspberry leaves : This herb has been widely used to stimulate the uterus. It can be used in the form of tea or tablet . You need to ask your health care professional before deciding if this is right for you.
Castor oil : It is not known exactly how castor oil works. However it is believed to act as a laxative, stimulate the tummy and the womb and kick start labor. However this is not recommended because castor oil can cause diarrhea and make you nauseous .
Balsamic vinegar : Some people believe drinking balsamic vinegar can help you go into labor. However these claims are entirely unsubstantiated.
PRECAUTION
It is very important to seek the okay of your doctor before taking anything to kick start labor. While these foods may not harm you or your unborn child in normal proportion, it may not be the case when taken in larger quantities.
