Babies wipes and newborn
You may have heard that a newborn’s skin is sensitive to wipes and may be wondering what to do. You have to know that many baby wipes contain ingredients that may trigger a reaction in babies with sensitive skin. So while it may be safe to use baby wipes right away, you can just wait until your baby is about 1 month old.
During the first few weeks, you can use an ultra soft paper towel or clean cloth and warm water. You can dab on a gentle baby wash if necessary. Pat the area dry with a towel before putting on a fresh diaper to prevent diaper rash.
However it is fine to use diapers for newborn. You just have to look out for the development of redness and rash. This will mean your baby has sensitive skin. In that case, you may want to use cotton balls dipped in warm water.
When your baby is ready for regular wipes, choose alcohol free and unscented wipes to prevent irritation. If irritation still continues, switch to a different brand until you find one that doesnt cause any reaction.
Talk to your pediatrician about any irritation that doesnt seem to go away.
