It is impossible to say exactly how long it will takes a woman to get pregnant. This is because pregnancy is affected by a lot of factors such as :
- age
- reproductive health
- general health
- how often you have sex ( Regular sex means having sex every two to three days throughout the month )
Some women conceive faster. It may take longer for others.
How long does it take to get pregnant ?
Most couples conceive within 3 months of trying . It may be longer depending on age, health and other factors. However if you’ve been trying for about 3 months and dont get pregnant, do not panic, there are certain lifestyle changes that can accelerate your getting pregnancy. These include the following :
- dont smoke
- avoid alcohol
- lose weight if you are overweight or gain healthy weight if you are under weight
- eat healthy
- avoid illicit drugs
- limit caffeine intake
- talk to your doctor about your medications. Certain medications can interfere with your chances of getting pregnant
You should also know that if you’ve been on birth control for a while, it may take longer to conceive .
However if you have tried for a year with no success, it is important to seek help from a fertility specialist.
If you are 35 years or older, it is best to get help within 6 months of trying unsuccessfully to get pregnant. Once couples are diagnosed with infertility problems, a good number of them do get pregnant with medical help. Others resort to other options such as donation, surrogacy and adoption.
