When buying clothing for your baby, you have to keep washability in mind. You should not only check the label for size, but you also have to consider washing instructions, flame resistance and snug fitting information. You have to give serious thought to washability and durability especially when buying baby’s everyday outfits, onesies and sleepers.
Tips to help when washing baby’s clothing
Washing : It is important to wash your baby’s clothing before using them. This is because newborns tend to have sensitive skin and you also do not know who else has handled the outfit. An exception is outerwear such as jacket and coats which do not have much contact with the skin. When doing laundry, be sure to fasten velcro tabs such as those on bibs to avoid snagging other clothing.
Detergent : Even though it has been recommended that parents use special baby detergent that are less likely to cause skin irritation, it has been found out that most parents toss baby’s clothing with the rest of the family’s laundry without any problems at all. You can therefore choose a detergent that smells good and get out the dirt. However you may want to invest in milder ” baby” detergent when the child develops any signs of skin irritation.
Stain removal : The best way to remove stain made by formula, breastmilk or poop is by wiping or rinsing it off while still fresh. This may not be easy to do especially if you are in the middle of feeding or diaper change. However if you able to remove even a tiny bit with wipes or soak the outfit in water and detergent, it will make the stain easier to remove. It will also help you to stock your laundry with a good stain remover.
