Dealing with breech twins
Most babies shift in the womb so that their heads are presented downwards towards the birth canal a few weeks to delivery. However, if the presentation of one or more baby is bottom or feet facing the birth canal, this means she /he is breech.
There are three ways a baby can be breech. These include the following :
- complete breech is when the baby’s bump is down and the legs are folded to the knees
- footling breech is when feet are presenting downwards
- frank breech is when the bottom is down and the legs stick straight up with the feet at the baby’s head
Whether the baby is breech or not is not really important when you’re expecting triplets or more. This is because you will probably deliver your babies through c-section. However if you are expecting twins and plan to delivery vaginally, your doctor will evaluate your babies presentation before birth.
It is common for multiple babies to be breech. This is because there is not enough room in the uterus . However, sometimes as soon as the first babies comes out, the second baby will flip into the proper position. There is no way to prevent a breech baby and it is not always known why it happens . However a few factors may influence it and this includes the following :
- too much or too little amniotic fluid
- you’ve been pregnant before
- irregular shaped uterus
- babies are being delivered premature
