Whether you choose to bathe your baby in an infant bath, bath tub, shower or sink, there are some common principles that are common to all.
Common principles to follow when bathing your baby
Support : Once you’ve gotten all your bathing supplies ready, you need to use your non dormant hand and arm to support your baby’s neck and head as needed. You should reach behind/under your baby and then hold on to his opposite arm throughout the bath. This will ensure that you have his unwavering support while you still have your functional hand free. You can wet your baby’s body from head down with clean, warm water using a plastic cup, wash cloth or your free hands.
Head down : When you work from head down, it prevents the already rinsed area from getting soapy again. Remember to wash carefully any folds in your baby’s armpit, neck and armpit.
Focus on the face : Using a wet wash cloth, wipe your baby’s face. Use the corners of cloth to clean the other outer part of the baby’s ear and behind the ear.
Take care of the hair : If your baby has any hair and you think it needs washing, add a small all-purpose wash or shampoo to a wash cloth or in your palm and rub it into the baby’s hair. Simply tilt the baby’s hair backwards slightly when rinsing to avoid getting soap or shampoo into your baby’s hair.
Soap : If you are going to use mild soap or baby wash, put a small amount on a washcloth or your hands and rub it gently into your baby’s body. It is highly recommended that you keep your holding hand soap free to prevent a slippery situation. If soap gets on the baby’s hand, wash it quickly before the baby gets it in his eyes or mouth.
NOTE
After you finish washing the baby, gently hoist him out of the tub. You can avoid unnecessary aches and pains by bending at the knees and hips or sitting comfortably on a stool or chair. For safety purposes, always keep at least one hand and both eyes on the baby.
