An ectopic pregnancy is when a fertilized egg attaches itself in a place other than the inside of the uterus. Most ectopics happen in the fallopian tubes and as a result are sometimes called tubal pregnancy. Going through an ectopic pregnancy can leave a woman emotional. It can also leave her desperate to get pregnant again. You should note that most women who have had a tubal pregnancy have gone on to have healthy pregnancies even if a fallopian tube has been removed. As long as you have one working fallopian tube , you can get pregnant.
It is possible to get pregnant after going through a tubal pregnancy . If it was caused by infections that can be treated , you can improve your chances of getting pregnant by treating the infection. The infection didn’t cause the tubal pregnancy but the scarring caused it . Treating the infection does not get rid of the damage that has already been done.
How long should you wait to get pregnant after an ectopic pregnancy ?
You need to discuss with your doctor how long to wait before getting pregnant again. Some doctors recommend waiting 3 to 6 months.
After going through a tubal pregnancy , you need time for your body and mind to heal. Do not blame yourself. Counseling and joining support groups may help you cope.
