Epinephrine is the main medicine used to treat anaphylaxis. It is given by injection and the best place to give it is in the muscle of the upper part of the thigh. If symptoms do not get better , the injection should be given again in 5 to 30 minutes.

Older children should be taught   on how to give themselves epinephrine when needed. This medicine comes  in auto-injector syringes (EpiPen or Auvi-Q) to make it easier to use. Epinephrine should be prescribed to anyone who has had an anaphylactic reaction or anyone who is at risk of this condition.

They are available in 2 different doses based on the weight of your child. You should have at least 2 doses with you all the time. Children of school going age also need one at school with instructions from their doctor about how and when to use it.
