You can use sex toys during pregnancy as long as you have a healthy pregnancy. Most women use sex toys during pregnancy but you have to take certain precautions.
Precautions you need to take when using sex toys during pregnancy
You need to keep them clean to reduce your risk of vaginal infections during pregnancy. Untreated infections may lead to premature delivery. Here are ways to keep your sex toys clean :
- clean them all over with soap and warm water
- rinse and dry them carefully
- store them in a clean place
You can also reduce your risk of infection by washing yourself before and after sex. You should also try to urinate after using the toys.
Sharing these toys can be risky. Try to avoid doing that.
You may find that sex toys are more satisfying now that you are pregnant. This is due to increased blood flow to your genitals as well as hormonal changes. These make orgasm with sex toys more intense.
However you should ask your health care provider before using sex toys if you fall into the following category.
- if you are at risk of preterm labor
- if you have been asked to avoid sex due to low-lying placenta or weak cervix in previous pregnancy
- your water is broken
- you have a vaginal infection
If you experience vaginal bleeding, seek your doctor’s permission before using sex toys or sex. A little bleeding after sex may be nothing to worry about. It may be due to small irritation of the cervix. However, it is always better to be careful that to ignore.
