Tubal ligation is sometimes called tying of tubes. It involves cutting and tying of the fallopian tubes to prevent the release of eggs into the uterus. This is considered a permanent form of birth control. However, surgery can be done to reverse the procedure even though this does not guarantee the possibility of getting pregnant.
Is pregnancy after tubal ligation possible ?
Tubal ligation is one of the most effective ways of preventing pregnancy. Although the possibility of getting pregnant after this procedure is very low, the chance is still there. However if pregnancy occurs, you have an increased risk of ectopic pregnancy.
If you’ve had this form of birth control in the past and suspect that you may be pregnant, talk to your health care provider right away.
Tubal ligation reversal
Even though it is considered a permanent form birth control, a reversal procedure is still possible. This procedure is used to reconnect the fallopian tubes. Success rate is from 25 to 80%. However, keep in mind that your risk of an ectopic pregnancy goes up.
