Natural birth is going through childbirth without the use of any medical intervention for labor pain. There are different techniques that can be used when trying to have a baby naturally. You need to study these techniques carefully to determine which works best for you and your partner. It is also a good idea to talk to your doctor or midwife about the different techniques.
Natural childbirth techniques
The Alexander technique : This technique was developed by F.M Alexander. It is a technique that involves sitting, standing and moving with safety , efficiency and ease. During this technique, you can learn to release muscular tension to increase breathing capacity as well as restore the body’s original pose and proper posture. As a result when it’s time for delivery, you are able to breathe better, remain calm, focus during child-birth, help the cervix open during dilation and prepare for effective pushing when baby comes.
The Bradley position : This was developed by Dr. Robert Bradley . This technique emphasizes on excellent nutrition, exercise and relaxation techniques to manage pain. Effective involvement of your partner as a coach is also important. This natural childbirth technique teaches you how to tune in to your body. You also learn different positions that will ease labor pain and prepare for you for the stages of labor. You will also be taught how to avoid cesarean, how to nurse your baby and how discuss your birth plan with your doctor.
Lamaze : This method was developed by Dr. Ferdinand Lamaze. It utilizes distractions during contractions to reduce the perception of pain and decrease discomfort. During this technique you and your partner will learn controlled breathing, massage, concentration and how to be in control during labor.
Hypnosis : It uses hypnosis during labor to bring a woman into a state of total relaxation during which the body muscles can function according to the way they are designed.
Water birth : This is giving birth in a warm tub of water and this helps the woman relax. It also alleviates discomfort and pressure. However water birth is not for high risk pregnancies. There should also be preparations for delivery to occur outside water should any complications arise.
