It is important to have an emergency care plan for your child. You can ask your child’s health care provider to help you develop it. Keep a copy of the plan at home and give the rest to anybody who takes care of your baby.
What should be included in my child’s emergency care plan
An emergency care plan should include the following :
- your child’s name
- your child’s date of birth
- your child’s health care provider
- preferred hospital for treatment
- your name and contact information
- the number for poison control in your area
- the phone number of the nearest emergency room
The plan should also include the following :
- your child’s medical condition
- your child’s medications including any emergency drugs
- the food your child eats
- any allergies your child may have such as food allergies or allergies to certain medications
You should include anything you think will be helpful to your child when drawing out your child’s emergency care plan.
