When you find out you are pregnant, your life will never be the same depending on which choice you make. There are three pregnancy choices available to you. You can have the baby and raise the baby, you can give birth to the baby and give it up for adoption or you can end the pregnancy though abortion. It is important to get over the shock of being pregnant before making any decision. After that confirm your pregnancy with an ultrasound. Then meet with a pregnancy counsellor to find out your options. You have to clarify your values, beliefs and circumstances.
The three pregnancy choices
Becoming a parent
Becoming a parent can be overwhelming and rewarding. It can be fascinating to feel another life grow inside you, that person growing to become a person with his own interest, talents and personality. One of the most important needs as a parent is support .
You need to ask yourself the following questions if you decide to become a parent .
- am i going to be a single parent or will i get married ?
- can family members help financially with taking care of my child ?
- would it be possible to live on your own with your child ?
- can i live with a family member or another single mother
- how can i achieve your long-term goals in order to make life better for me and my child ?
- would i consider getting government assistance programs such as WIC and Medicaid. ?
Adoption
There is a wide range of options when it comes to adoption, from closed adoption to very open adoption. It is very important to be well-informed before making a decision.
Some of the benefits of adoption include :
- you have the option of choosing your adoptive parent and control most of the details affecting the child’s future
- you can determine the nature of the relation between the child and adoptive parents
- at any stage during the process of adoption, you can decide to keep the child. Every state has different rules for adoption so you must be well-informed about your state’s laws
- you have the option of getting support to help you cope with your grief through counseling, support groups and other services
You also need to ask yourself the following questions :
- what do i want for my child ?
- what would be an ideal home for my child ?
- can i contact anyone who has placed for an adoption ?
- do i have all the information i need to know about adoption ?
Abortion
Abortion decisions can be very difficult. Before you consider adoption , you have to know about the different types of adoption and the risk involved.
You should ask yourself the following questions
- what are the laws in my state regarding abortion ?
- have i been tested for sexually transmitted diseases STDs ?
- do i have all the information i need to know about abortion and the risks involved ?
- how have i viewed abortion in the past ?
- is anyone pressuring me to have an abortion ?
