It is safe to use perfume during pregnancy. However, you may find that you are more sensitive to perfume and some of the scents make you feel light-headed, nauseated and more prone to headaches. You can prevent any discomfort by keeping a fragrance free environment until you find out which fragrance makes you feel comfortable.
Choosing a perfume during pregnancy
Fragrant body spray and lotion are more common during pregnancy because they are lighter and contain less alcohol than perfume. Some scents have been found to alleviate. These include the following :
- ginger
- peppermint
- cardamom
Citrus scent has also been found to relief nausea as well as leave you feeling refreshed,rejuvenated and feeling calm. Citrus scents such as sweet orange, neroli and mandarin are very common among pregnant women. Other scents that you may want to try are chamomile, rose and lavender.
NOTE
Essential oils are different from body sprays and lotions. It is a concentrated aromatic , liquids excreted from plants. Some essential oils are not recommended during pregnancy. It is essential to discuss the use of essential oils during pregnancy with your health care provider.
