Shrimp and pregnancy
Most pregnant want to eat healthy during pregnancy. However, the question is what is safe to eat during pregnancy. It is good to be cautious about what you eat during pregnancy. Some sea foods such as shrimps are safe to eat while pregnant. Shrimp is low in mercury level and fat content. It also has a high protein content, making it a healthy choice for pregnant women.
If you decide to eat fish, it is essential to cook it thoroughly. Avoid raw shrimp such a those found in sushi and sashimi.It is recommended that you eat about 8 to 12 ounces ( 2 average meals ) of seafood per week during pregnancy.
It is also a good idea to find out which area the shrimp came from. Depending on where the shrimp was caught, the mercury level will be higher or lower. If you want to eat locally caught shellfish, your community health department may have information on the mercury levels in the local bodies of water. The most important thing is to cook the shrimp thoroughly before you eat.
