Falling during pregnancy can make you panic. However, your body has been designed to protect the fetus. An injury will have to be very severe to cause harm to your unborn child.
The uterine wall is made up of thick and strong muscles that help keep the baby safe. The baby is also surrounded by amniotic fluid and this fluid serves as a cushion. During early pregnancy, the uterus is tucked behind the pelvic bone. This also provides more protection.
If you do fall during pregnancy, you have take comfort in the fact that, it is likely that your baby won’t be hurt. However if you do have any concerns, contact your healthcare provider.
Falling during pregnancy : Warning signs
When you fall during later pregnancy, there is a concern that you may go into labor or deliver early. Look for the following warning signs and call your doctor right away if you do experience these.
- pain in the abdomen
- vaginal bleeding
- leaking of amniotic fluid
- uterine contractions
- decreased fetal movement
