According to theCenter for Disease Control and Prevention CDC, almost half of all pregnancies in the United States are unplanned. Unplanned pregnancy can happen to anyone. If you a woman who has not yet experienced menopause,  then you can get pregnant.

Why do unplanned pregnancy happen ?

 
The only  birth control that is 100% effective is abstinence. Even though birth controls usually work all the time, accidents do happen. Birth controls such as condoms, birth control pills, intrauterine device usually work 80 to 90% most of the time. Your chances of getting pregnant increases if you don’t use the birth control correctly.

 

Indecision can also cause pregnancy. When a couple are not sure if they want to get pregnant or not, They are not trying to get pregnant and not actively trying to prevent it . So they end up getting pregnant.

 

Some people may not also want to use birth control all the time  or at all. They may not like them, may have a partner who doesn’t like it or may not have access to it.

 

How can you prevent unplanned pregnancy ?

 

Avoid Sex : The best way to prevent unwanted pregnancy is abstinence. This is the most effective way of preventing pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases STDs.
 
Use Birth control : Birth control is an effective way of preventing pregnancy and the barrier form of birth control such as condoms can also prevent sexually transmitted diseases STDs. There are different type of birth control as as the pill, intrauterine device IUD and female sponges. For optimum results, it is essential to read the direction on the birth control and use it exactly as directed.

 

Emergency contractive : Just in case you have unprotected  sex, you still have a way of preventing pregnancy. The emergency contraceptive is effective in preventing pregnancy. For example, the Plan B is effective in preventing pregnancy when used within 3 days of unprotected sex.  The sooner it is used , the greater the percentage of preventing pregnancy. Whichever emergency contraception you use, you need to follow the directions carefully to increase your chances of preventing pregnancy.
