Sore throat is reddening of the throat as a result of inflammation. This may lead to may lead to pain and result in difficulty swallowing or even breathing.
What causes sore throat during pregnancy ?
Sore throat is usually caused by viral infection. However there are other possible causes , some of which include the following :
- bacterial or fungal infection
- acid reflux
- allergies
- asthma
How do I manage sore throat during pregnancy ?
Sore throat can be uncomfortable. However unless they are very severe, it is better to avoid taking medications. There are various home remedies to treat mild sore throat during pregnancy.
Salt water gargle : Make salt water by mixing a tablespoon of salt with a pint of warm water. Gargle several times a day. This helps sooth the irritation.
Tea or hot water mixed with honey and lemon juice : Add lemon juice and honey to a cup of tea. You can also use hot water instead of tea. Let it cool down a bit and drink.This will help break down the mucus that is contributing to the sore throat. You can drink this several times a day.
Fluids : Increase your fluid intake to help thin the mucous. It can also keep the membranes hydrated and flush down toxins.
Use humidifier : Using a humidifier in your bedroom or living room will keep the air moist. It can also keep your mucous membrane moist to help relieve your symptoms.
