What are the causes of varicose veins during pregnancy ?

During pregnancy, there is an increase in blood volume. There is also a decrease in the speed at which blood returns to your pelvis from your legs. This increases the pressure on these 6 veins. High levels of the hormone progestin also cause the veins to dilate and open and the result is varicose veins.

Varicose veins are also hereditary. If you have it in your family, chances of you getting it during pregnancy is greater.
