During pregnancy, your body goes through a lot of changes. Increased hormonal levels may result in pregnancy symptoms such as nausea and vomiting, fatigue, frequent urination and mood swings. However there are unusual pregnancy symptoms that some women experience. This is a normal part of pregnancy but occasionally may be the sign of a serious medical condition.
Unusual pregnancy symptoms
Snoring : Snoring during pregnancy can happen to you even if you have never snored before. This may be due to the extra weight or congestion. It is usually nothing to worry about. However, you may want to mention it to your doctor. Rarely it may be a sign of sleep apnea, a condition which results in interrupted breathing during sleep.
Allergies : Allergies may improve or get worse during pregnancy. If your allergy symptoms get worse, contact your doctor to find out which allergy medications can be used during pregnancy.
Rash : Your skin goes through a lot of changes during pregnancy. You may experience rashes such as PUPP – Pruritic Urticarial Papules and Plaques of Pregnancy. These are small, red itchy bumps on the skin. Contact your doctor if you have skin itching that gets worse even if you don’t see the rash. You may be referred to a dermatologist for treatment.
Diarrhea : Even though constipation is a common complaint during pregnancy, diarrhea can also occur. Diarrhea during pregnancy may be due to the following :
- some food you ate before may not agree with you
- diatary changes during pregnancy
- underlying GI conditions.
Contact your health care provider for diarrhea relieve.
Insomnia : Changes that occur while pregnant may make it difficult to have a good night sleep. If insomnia is getting worse and affecting your daily activities, talk to your health care provider about how to manage it.
Vaginal discharge : There is an increase in a thin, whitish vaginal discharge. This is known as leucorrhea. This is actually a good sign that the vagina is doing its job by maintaining a healthy balance of bacteria in the birth canal. However if discharge is thick, foul smelly and yellowish, it may be a sign of infection. Seek urgent medical care.
Nosebleeds : Increase in blood supply during pregnancy causes blood vessels in the nose to expands. This pressure makes the blood vessels more vulnerable to rapture and this may result in nosebleeds. If this rarely occurs, there is no cause for alarm. However if bleeding is heavy and occurs frequently, call your health care provider.
