Having a newborn can be exciting but it also bring a lot of stress. New mom stress can have a toll of you. Moms usually worry about things such as :
- why is my baby crying too much
- am I feeding my baby enough
- how can I combine taking care of a newborn and family
You should know that these concerns are normal and experienced by most new moms. However there are steps you can take to help you manage new mom stress.
Dealing with new mom stress
Get enough rest : Rest as much as you can. Sleep when the baby sleeps. Share night-time duties with your partner so that you can both get some sleep.
Eat healthy : Eating the right foods can give you energy to care for your newborn. You need to eat good food and drink lots of water instead of living on caffeine.
Stay active : Exercises can boost your energy. Take the baby for a walk and do a little physical activity when the baby takes a nap.
Get help : Caring for a newborn and the family can be overwhelming. Don’t be a super mom. It’s okay to get help. You can do the following to some rest
- get help from family and friends
- schedule time for visits that works best for you and the baby
- get your partner or family members to care for the baby and have some time for yourself
- keep older kids busy so you can feed and care for baby
Take it easy on household duties : Take some time off household chores such as laundry and cleaning and get enough rest. Have your partner brings meals home at times so that you can relax and not have to worry about meals. Get help from families and friends.
