Health professionals recommend that you wait for at least 6 weeks after delivery before resuming sexual intercourse. It has been reported that decreased libido is not unusual after pregnancy. Some women have shown little or no interest in sex for up to 3 months after delivery. Decreased libido after pregnancy is temporary. With time , you and your partner can begin to enjoy intimacy.
Causes of decreased libido after pregnancy .
Hormonal changes : During pregnancy, there is a whole lot of hormonal changes that goes on throughout the body which can put a damper on your sex drive. It is also believed that breastfeeding releases a hormones that suppresses libido.
Fatigue : The delivery of a baby, whether though c-section or vaginally has a toll on the mother. The demands of having a newborn can be overwhelming. New moms barely have any time on their hands to relax. As a result, being intimate is the last thing on their minds.
Fear : Most women fear that sexual intercourse will be painful. Others find sex after pregnancy to be uncomfortable due to low self esteem. They feel their partners will find them unattractive or less desirable. Some women also have the fear of getting pregnant again and therefore try to avoid having sex.
Here are some ways to regain intimacy after pregnancy ?
Talk your about feelings : Talk to your partner about your feelings. Let him know how you feel physically and emotionally. This will help ease some tension.
Work on arousal and foreplay : Arousal and fore play can help you regain intimacy. It does not necessarily have to lead to sex but it can slowly help you regain the desire to have sex.
Spend time with each other : You need to spend time together to remind you of old times. It could be a romantic candle light dinner or a date to the movies. It has to be something to remind you of the old times and how much fun it used to be.
